 在一個寒冷的夜晚，某大學心理系學生柳鍇陪著妄想型精神病患者景喚來到神秘的冰湖。景喚對這兒的一切顯得十分熟悉，因為她曾無數次夢見過。月亮出現了，冰湖上映出一個碩大的"8"字，她的表情也隨之變了，這一切使柳鍇毛骨悚然。原來，柳鍇與熱戀中的同學謝霓一起去精神病院實習時，謝霓對少女景喚產生了濃厚興趣。景喚曾是某工廠的出納員，因貪污公款被人發現而患精神病。謝霓想多側面研究此病癥，寫出專題論文，為此，她請柳鍇盡力關心景喚，解除景喚的心理障礙，還特意將景喚接到自己家里居住。景喚的到來使謝家成員均受到影響，謝母寫的鋼琴獨奏曲《弧光》，唯景喚能領會其中奧妙；謝父竟因她顯得年輕了許多。一天，謝霓和柳鍇帶景喚去看望一位養花老人，沒想到她的病情開始好轉。春節，景喚為謝家制作了一座大型插花，得到謝家成員和前來做客的日本朋友一致贊賞，當景喚知道謝霓姐姐的男友正是自己以前的戀人夏宗華時，憤然而去。謝霓和柳鍇終于在腫瘤醫院找到正陪伴病危父親的景喚。景父病逝，柳鍇竭盡全力幫助景喚料理完后事，贏得了景喚對他的信任。景喚帶柳鍇來到她時常夢到的冰湖邊，向他傾述了自己心里的秘密。景喚在不和諧和家庭中長大，母親和弟弟給她的心靈抹上層層陰影；她的男友夏宗華因交通肇事急需用錢，為此她貪污了公款，誰知夏宗華一出來就翻臉與她中斷了關系。景喚天賦很高，但她最討厭數字，整天和數字打資產的出納工作令她心煩意亂。這諸多不幸使她精神失常了。柳鍇發覺自己愛上了影喚，可他知道謝霓和景喚不可兼得。夜色中的冰湖神秘而寂靜，柳鍇和影喚雙雙滑冰，他沒有勇氣超越冰上的"8"字，他和她分手了。當陽光重新灑滿冰湖時，成千上萬的青年男女來此滑冰，一派歡樂祥和的景象。

Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
