 故事發生在1975年的北京，技術員岳志鵬來到了女友盛敏（劉曉慶 飾）所在的工廠里，兩人準備共同負責一個非常重要的項目。盛敏有兩個妹妹，她們一個愛上了工程副指揮高宇（徐敏 飾），另一個和名為王大龍（劉衍利 飾）的男人走到了一起。岳志鵬的父親受到迫害，與此同時，岳志鵬抄了一首悼念總理的詩文，這在當時會將岳志鵬置于非常危險的地位。為了保護岳志鵬，盛敏偷偷的將詩文藏在家中，哪知道高宇為了邀功，竟然偷出了詩文，導致岳志鵬也遭到了調查迫害。為了不連累盛敏，岳志鵬決定和她斷絕一切往來，高宇的所作所為也讓盛敏的妹妹看清了他的丑惡嘴臉。
